Heading To A Prosperous Life!

by Arthelo Palma

Heading To A Prosperous Life!

Bill Gates puts it, “If you’re born poor, it’s not your mistake. But if you die poor, it’s your mistake." Gates might have purely referred to material prosperity when he uttered these words. When he said poor, he is literally referring to people who lack and are totally bankrupt of money and material possession. The good thing about what he said is the implication that each one of us must have something to do in order to alleviate the way of our life, for us to be able to head to abundance and prosperity.

There was this story of three servants entrusted with different amount of money according to their ability by a man (their master) going on a journey. The first one was given five folds amount of money, two folds to the second one and one fold to the third, to be exact. These servants have to make the entrusted money productive so that when their master would return, he would be happy and would say, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness.”

It is clear that the first servant who acquired five folds of money has far excellent ability compared to the other two. In fact, this servant was able to gain five folds more when he worked hard with that money, acquiring ten folds of money in all. The second man also worked hard and gained another two folds. However, the third servant did nothing at all with the money that his master entrusted to him. Instead, he dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

When the master returned from his journey, he called all his servants and settled accounts with them. The master was pleased with the two servants that he was able to bless them by telling each one of them, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness.” However, he was not pleased with the third servant as the money he gave to him did not even gain just a small amount of interest. So he said, “Take that money from him and give it to the one who has ten more. For everyone who has will be given more and he will have abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”

Success starts in the mind

Each one of us is unique. Some may not be that intelligent, but I am sure they have something good in them such as talents or skills that differentiate them from the other, allowing them to shine in their own way. We all have different talents and skills that make us distinctive from each other. We all have potential ability that once efficiently taken advantage of, will always result to productivity or abundance. Some of us might be grappling upon financial instability, but I believe there must be a way out and one way will be through our unique potential ability.

I believe God created us diverse so that each one will turn out unique, and rely on each other's capability. It is only through our uniqueness that will make us shine together. However, not every one of us can shine in reality because just like the third servant in our story, human has the tendency to be discouraged or have fear of the unknown and become passive with life, resulting to idleness, unproductive life, laziness, bankruptcy and eventually, poverty.

The third servant in our story was not only poor in material possession, but also at how he viewed life. He did not realize that there is a great possibility to make life more productive just as how the first and second servants were conscious of this reality.

Some of us might be struggling enough and becoming fed up with financial needs, taking it as absolute problem in life. However, this is not actually the real problem. The actual valid issue in here is our inability to recognize that we can do something with our situation, just simply because God created us to become prosperous. God designed us with unique potential abilities that we should use in order for us to be able to acquire our needs, in our own ways. Our unique potential ability is a God’s given power for us. Our talents, skills, knowledge, health, strength are just some of the unique potential abilities that we can consider as God’s given power for us. Some of us might have been given much more just as the first servant in our story. However, there was a strong effort needed for that servant in order to meet the expectation of his master. So life is not unfair. God will only demand from us based on our abilities and from what He has given us. I remember this line in the movie Spiderman: “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Conclusion

Everyone has great absolute potential and there is a seed of success in each of us. What we only need is to unravel and cultivate them that will lead us to a life of abundance and prosperity. We should then take the responsibility to invest our whole life in whatever power God has entrusted us for His glory. Remember, the more there is strong potential in us, God expects us to maximize them fully for His glory.

The above story is based on Jesus’ Parable of the Talents in the book of Matthew chapter 25 verses 14 to 30. This is another Biblical principle telling us Jesus’ desire is only for our own good. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10b).
