The Best Way To Kill Ourselves

by Arthelo Palma

1 Samuel 31

the best way to kill your self
In everything we do, we believe a logical approach is necessary. I do not intend to disagree with this, because God in the first place gives us the opportunity to think and do what is right or wrong for the fulfillment of His plan for us, but as I observe, a man would be in trouble if pride dominates over his life. Why? In the presence of pride, a man cannot think of appropriate things because he might be overcome by his anger, greed and emotion. These could make the man to become highly illogical, leading him to create actions with associated troubles in the end. God eventually detests pride for it would hinder His wonderful plan and purpose for each of us.

In today’s reading, king Saul’s death would remind us again on how his pride led him to his own destruction. As the Lord progresses Saul, the king was momentarily lacking the basic requirement a successful man of God like David should possess. He lacked humility before the Lord which led him to destruction. Even during the moment of his death, king Saul’s pride was overwhelming. He said to his armor-bearer in the midst of their battle with the Philistines, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me” (verse 4).

With pride, a man would step off from God’s ultimate plan and consider placing everything in his own hand, which is a highly self-centered approach. Pride will always lead us to a self-centered approach of everything. When we think most for ourselves and less for others, the manifestation of pride is in us, and do not wait further for the time that we will be in trouble because of such attitude that is completely detestable before God.

God’s message:

Lack of humility before the Lord will eventually lead to destruction.

God’s promise:

God will find a way to fulfill His plan in favor of those who are humble before Him. We can find this principle from the life of David which we considered from our previous devotional articles.

God’s command:

Make it always a point in Christian living to obey the Lord.

God’s warning:

Disobedience results to destruction and hinders God’s plan in our life.

Make it a lifestyle to humble down before the Lord.

Father in Heaven, thank You once again for guiding us with Your Words and reminding us that pride will bring no good to us especially that it would hinder Your ultimate plan for us. Give us all the conviction Father to surrender everything to You so that You can work with us and make our life a channel of blessings. Erase all hints of pride in us, in the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen!
