Wait, You Need To Haul Out Strength!

by Arthelo Palma

1 Samuel 30

wait, you need to haul out strength
With many roles to play - father, husband, teacher and a leader in the church; and situations and circumstances to face; regaining my strength everyday is a must. But where should people like me pull out their strength? Yes, multivitamins could help and other food supplements in order to boost the immune system and to remain staying in power amidst nerve-racking daily activities, situations or circumstances. Relaxation could always be of great help. Having time to laugh and for a while forgetting about getting too serious could also bring comfort. However, I still find all of these too fleeting and could never satisfy that much.

In today’s reading David wept together with his men until they had no strength left, as their wives and all of what they had were taken as captives by the Amalekites (verses 2-5).

David’s life was in jeopardy and he was greatly distressed as his men were talking of stoning him for what had happened (verse 6).

The future king remained humble before the Lord and inquired Him of what to do and found strength in Him (verses 6-8).

God told David to pursue the Amalekites for he will succeed in the rescue (verse 8). David was indeed successful and recovered everything the Amalekites had taken including his two wives (verse 18).

A Christian life is never easy, with various challenges and testing of faith, there is a tendency that we would run out of strength. However, the Bible tells us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). God always renews our strength to go on with the battle, pursue the enemy and continue to live the life He wants every one of us to dwell. God would not want us to remain undefeated, because He has a plan to fulfill in us.

God’s message:

Our strength can be found in the Lord our God.

God’s promise:

We can do all things through Christ Who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).

God’s command:

Always rely on the Lord and inquire Him always especially in the life's most depressing times.

God’s warning:

Never make a move without inquiring God especially in times when there is a need to ask Him of additional strength. Failure to do so will only lead to probable wrong choices or moves.

Make it a lifestyle to always draw strength from the Lord. Read His Word and you will eventually find comfort and rest.

Father in Heaven, You know us and the things we are facing right now. You know that from time to time, we need comfort and strength coming from You. Help us Father to overcome all things coming our way. We can do nothing apart from You, so we need to entrust everything to You, because our battle is Yours. Help us to inquire You always in everything we do especially in most challenging and tough times in our lives. This we ask and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
