2 Samuel 6
We show honor to our parents or those who are higher in rank because this is the right thing to do. As a result, we obey and give value to their words.
In today’s reading, the ark of covenant stands for the
presence of God, and those who defied and did not give honor stood facing death
(verse 7) [spiritual death today] and unfruitfulness (verse 23).
Today, the very presence of God is His Words because He is
one with His Words (John 1:1-2). As we receive His Words, our reverence and
honoring for God can be manifested through our obedience to His message,
commands or instructions.
When we do not live by the words we heard from God (not
putting into application what we heard), we become unfruitful or unproductive
because the fruit of the Holy Spirit will not dwell in us. Since Jesus Christ,
God and His Words are one, believing or receiving Jesus Christ means obeying
His words. If we receive Jesus Christ, then the fruit of the Holy Spirit will
be with us and we will obtain life (John 10:10b; John 3:16; John 14:15-16).
When we give honoring and reverence for God through His words, we receive love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and
self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
God’ message:
The presence of God needs our honoring and reverence.
God’s promise:
Abundance, prosperity, and blessings come to those who give
honor or reverence for the Lord just like what David received (verse 12).
God’ command:
Give honor and reverence for the Lord.
God’s warning:
Death (spiritual death) and unfruitfulness (bearing no fruit
of the Holy Spirit) come to those who do not give honor and reverence for the
Lord (verses 7; 23).
Application:
Let us evaluate if we are now bearing the fruit of the Holy
Spirit. Read Galatians 5:22-23 to know them and the key in acquiring them in
John 14:15-16.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, the mighty God of Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob, the God yesterday, today and forever, thank You once again for allowing us to receive Your Words today. We thank You for Your constant provision
for the nourishment of our souls so that we will continue to live in righteousness.
Help us Father to deliberately obey You at all times. We are asking for Your
grace that we will always have strength to face and fight our enemies, the lust
of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. We renounce all of
them in the name of Jesus Christ. Cover and protect us always by the blood of
Your Son Jesus Christ. We humble down ourselves before You. Please give us Your
grace that You will not bring us to temptation but deliver us from every evil.
This we ask and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
