2 Samuel 10
There are many things we can do in order to be successful in
certain aspects of our life. We can apply strategies and other relevant moves
which could bring us forward to success, but some of them could not totally guarantee to lead us to victory. The reason is we could be limited,
especially if we are overcome by our pride or emotion. The usual result would
be the failure to choose the right decision, leading us to troubles.
In today’s reading, another essential point why David was
successful in defeating the Ammonites was his ability to initiate relevant
strategies, and for being an excellent mentor.
On the other side, I see that David was creating a balance between
techniques of life and his ability to rely on God’s powerful hands. I saw this
from the way Joab, David’s s right hand addressed the pressure of being in the
midst of fighting with the Ammonites. Joab said, “Be strong and let us fight
bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good
in his sight” (verse 12). I firmly believe that no other person who could have
influenced Joab this way, except David his mentor.
In totality, because of God’s wisdom and David’s humility
before the Lord, it was possible for David to win every battle he faced, and
even mentored somebody to have strong humility and faith before God.
We might employ our own strategies today, but we still need
to balance everything, not forgetting that the greatest part of our actions
should rely on what God can do for us.
God’s message:
God’s wisdom and our humility before the Lord together will
lead us to success.
God’s promise:
God will help us win our battle.
God’s command:
Be humble before the Lord. Do not be ignorant of His Words.
Eliminate pride.
God’s warning:
Ignorance brings pride and even defeat.
Applications:
Acknowledge God in everything you do.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, Creator of Heaven and earth, thank You for
allowing us once again to receive Your Word today. It is our prayer that You
will help us create a balance between trusting ourselves and relying on the
power of Your hands. Help us to become humble before You at all times. This we
ask and pray, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
