2 Kings 19
As a father and a husband at the same time, I always check that I keep with my promises. My eldest daughter would always pick me up with my words, reminding me that I have to fulfill what I have promised to her. The same way with my wife.
As a follower of Christ, it is our responsibility to show
the very characteristic of God to others.
God fulfills His promises to those who deliberately obey His
Words. This reminds me of king Hezekiah.
Ahaz, the father of Hezekiah was the first king in Judah who did
evil in the eyes of the Lord. As a consequence of his defiance, God diminished
the hope for Ahaz (Isaiah 38:8), but He continuously reminded His people thru
Hezekiah who was righteous enough to intercede in behalf of them that He would
deliver His people from their enemies for the sake of His given promise to
David (verse 34).
Our hope is in Christ, because just like David who did right
before the Lord, the redeeming works of Jesus on the cross gives us the optimism
that God would keep His promise to us. God’s word would surely apply to those
who receive Jesus Christ and live with Him because they are His people.
Today, many of us need the deliverance through the
resuscitating blood of Christ. Through Jesus, God will never forget His promise
of deliverance for His people. With Christ in our life, our prayer of
liberation from the bondage of the enemy just like what Hezekiah did for Jerusalem would indisputably
always remind the Lord of His ultimate plan and promise.
Just like Hezekiah, when we are obedient before the Lord,
our prayer would remind Him of His promise to us.
God’s message:
When God promises to His people, He fulfills and through the
righteous’ prayers His hands will move to deliver us from our enemies.
God’s promise:
Ultimate freedom from our enemies (sins, debts, turmoil,
pain, sickness, etc.)
God’s command:
Be obedient enough and always trust in the Lord’s promise.
God’s warning:
Having no reverence for the Lord prevents us from claiming
His promise.
Application:
Obedience is a must so that we can always trust in the
Lord’s promise, and we can pray and be certain that He will hear us.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, I believe that you are faithful to carry
out your words, and the key to claim your promise is to allow Jesus Christ to
be part in our life so that just like Him, we can obey and follow your will,
allowing us to get close to you with our prayers and be delivered from our
enemies. Help us to fulfill your will at all times, just as the very heart of
David and Jesus. This we ask and pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, your Son
and our Lord. Amen!
